December 6- Artist Talk and Hands on Workshop

This afternoon workshop is from 1 pm - 4 pm on December 6 and will be led by Nick Devries. In this hands-on workshop participants will learn techniques and processes to build interesting textures and surfaces on leather hard cylinders. Leather hard cylinders will be provided for the workshop as well as tools and additional materials. Participants are encouraged to bring in personal tools or items that may offer unique textural or surface interactions with the clay. DeVries will demonstrate how he approaches finishing work at the leather hard stage by finishing a tall pitcher and a covered jar during the workshop.

This workshop has a sliding scale registration fee which supports ceramic arts educational programming at Maine Prairie Studio. These events are open to the public and is designed for all ages and experience levels. Please register for this event on our website to reserve a spot.

Nick Devries biography and statement:

Nick DeVries has been working in ceramics for 25 years. He studied at St. John's University where, in 2001, he finished a Bachelor's Degree in Art, with a concentration in painting and ceramics. Since his college years Nick has worked as a production potter for Minneapolis based pottery, taught courses at the Edina Art Center and Northern Clay Center, and pursued his own studio ceramic work. Currently he live in Brainerd MN where he works full time as a ceramic artist. DeVries is represented by ceramics galleries nationally and has shown his work in numerous group and solo exhibitions.
