New work from the wood firings and gas kilns is live!

The Maine Prairie Studio apprenticeship program provides skills for individuals pursuing a career as a studio artist. Apprentices work closely with Megan and JD Jorgenson in all aspects of the studio and artistic development, including creating work, writing, retail and teaching. The apprenticeship is a full time, one year program with the option to renew for a second year. A stipend is provided to the apprentices.

Apprenticeships:

  • Maine Prairie Studio's Apprenticeship Program is intended for individuals aspiring to become studio artists.
  • Throughout the program, apprentices work closely with Megan and JD Jorgenson on a range of studio responsibilities and artistic development.
  • The program covers all aspects of studio pottery, including creating work, glazing and firing, educational programming, and retail and exhibitions experiences.
  • The apprenticeship program a full time, one year commitiment with an option to extend for another year. Participants receive a stipend for their involvement.

Beside making work, apprentices will be involved with all other aspects of the studio. This may include:

  • Glaze mixing
  • Clay mixing
  • Kiln loading (electric, gas and wood)
  • Studio cleaning
  • Studio maintenance and organization
  • Website and advertising for the studio
  • Wood preparation for wood firings
  • Educational programming
  • Gallery sales 
  • Assistance with events and arts festivals

About us

Maine Prairie Studio is the pottery studio of Megan and JD Jorgenson, located in Kimball, Minnesota. Our studio aims to nurture creativity and elevate the ceramic arts through community education for rural Minnesotans. Additionally, we support local, regional and national artists through internships, apprenticeships, residencies and retreats.
