Class information

Registration for winter clay classes opens our website on Monday, November 4 at 9:00 am.

Winter clay classes run for five weeks from Jan. 27 - Feb. 28, 2025. Class will meet once a week for 5 weeks. Classes are held at our location in downtown Kimball, 70 Main Street S.

Your class registration includes: class instruction, 12 pounds of clay, open studio access, access to our common tools, pottery wheels, ware racks, slips, glazes, bisque and glaze firing with up to one 12 x 24 kiln shelf of work included for 5 weeks. Additional firing costs may be incurred depending on the amount of work made. Firing costs will be calculated based on the number of 12 x 24 shelves used by each individual in our cone 10 reduction kiln. The cost per shelf is $25. 

 

Mondays

Independent Study: Wheel Throwing Emphasis

6pm - 9pm, $200

Instructor: JD and Megan

Expand your pottery skills! This class  is intended for intermediate or advanced students who want to focus independently on one or more topics in clay, with instructional support. There will be an emphasis on wheel throwing topics, but students are welcome to work on other skills as well. 

 

Tuesdays

Beginning Wheel

6pm - 9pm, $200

Instructor: JD

Learn how to use the pottery wheel in this ten week class geared for beginners or students with an introductory exposure to the wheel. During this class, students will learn to create a variety of forms on the wheel including cylinders, bowls and vases. Students will also explore applying slip and glaze to the work.

 

Wednesdays

Beginning Wheel: Ages 10 +

5:30 - 8:30 pm, $200

Instructor: Megan

Learn how to use the pottery wheel in this ten week class geared for beginners, or students with an introductory exposure to the wheel. During this class, students will learn to create a variety of forms on the wheel including cylinders, bowls and vases. Students will also explore applying slip and glaze to the work. Students under the age of 14 should be accompanied by an adult. 

 

Thursdays

Introduction to Pottery: Handbuilding and Wheel

10 am  - 1 pm, $200

Instructor: Megan

Explore both wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques. This class is designed for beginning students who are interested in a variety of ways to create handmade pottery. It would also be suitable for students with wheel throwing experience who wish to add handbuilding to their repertoire.
