Maine Prairie Studio is the pottery studio of Megan and JD Jorgenson, located in Kimball, Minnesota. Our studio's mission is to nurture creativity and elevate the ceramic arts through community education for rural Minnesotans. Additionally, we support local, regional and national artists through assistantships, retreats and residencies.

Students interning at Maine Prairie Studio play an active and important role in day-to-day studio coordination, education, community outreach and public relations.

Internships:

  • Internships provide a chance to learn within a community-based ceramics and teaching studio.
  • Internships are focused on studio operations, education, physical and online gallery management, or marketing and communications.
  • The duration of internships is usually one semester, with interns dedicating around 10 hours per week at the studio.
  • Interns receive a complimentary pottery class and may qualify for high school or college credit.

Please note: Maine Prairie Studio currently only offers unpaid internships. All interns will be required to keep a journal or blog to record their experiences. Interns may take a class at no cost either during or after their internship.

Pottery Studio Internship

Assist with day to day operation and organization at Maine Prairie Studio.

Intern’s duties:  Interns will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of studio and kiln maintenance. Tasks may include mixing clay and glazes, loading and unloading kilns, and studio upkeep and maintenance. Students will learn specifically about the studio process and techniques, along with other aspects of  running a clay studio, including marketing, critiques, firing, customer relations.

Arts Education Internship

Assist with educational programming at Maine Prairie Studio

Intern’s duties:  Interns will be assist with planning and teaching pottery classes at Maine Prairie Studio to a range of ages and levels of experience. Interns monitor the studio and help students during open studio hours. 

Gallery, Website and E-commerce Internship

Assist with managing the physical storefront, online retail platform and website for Maine Prairie Studio

Intern’s duties:  Interns will be assist with managing the physical storefront and online retail platform for Maine Prairie Studio. Tasks may include arranging work in the gallery, sales, photography of artwork, inventory, and uploading work to the online store

Marketing and Communications Internship

Assist in all aspects of marketing and promotion for Maine Prairie Studio

Intern’s duties:  Interns will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of the studio’s marketing and promotion. Interns should possess knowledge of  Mailchimp, Facebook, Jotform, Instagram and Tiktok, as well as taking digital images and video and editing. Tasks may range from taking digital images of pottery to helping with marketing and promotions for events, sales, newsletters and classes and residencies.
