Summer classes run for five weeks from June 17 - July 18, 2025. Classes meet once a week for 5 weeks at our studio in downtown Kimball MN, 70 Main Street South.
Adult Class Descriptions
Adult classes are open to students 16 years and older
Beginning Wheel
Tuesday 6 pm - 9 pm, $200

Learn how to use the pottery wheel in this five week class geared for beginners or students with an introductory exposure to the wheel. During this class, students will learn to create a variety of forms on the wheel including cylinders, bowls and vases. Students will also explore applying slip and glaze to the work.
General class information:
Your class registration includes: class instruction, 12.5 pounds of clay, open studio access outside of class time, access to our common tools, pottery wheels, ware racks, slips, glazes, bisque and glaze firing. One 12 x 24 kiln shelf of fired work is included for the 5 week class.
Additional firing costs may be incurred depending on the amount of work made. Firing costs will be calculated based on the number of 12 x 24 shelves used by each individual in our cone 10 reduction kiln. The cost per shelf is $25.
General Open Studio hours, available for all registered students:
These open studio hours are included in the cost of the class. Open studio hours start on June 14 and align with our gallery hours.
- Mondays and Tuesdays: 4 - 9 pm
- Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 10 am - 7 pm
- Saturdays: 10 am - 5 pm
Extended open studio passes to access additional hours are available at an additional cost of $50/5 week classes for enrolled students. Those hours are:
Monday - Sunday: 8 am - midnight

Refunds on classes, retreats, and workshop enrollment can be made 30 days from the start date for full refund. Unfortunately, a refund will not be issued for the cost of class retreat or workshop after this time.

My experience was everything I hoped! I’ve learned so much and want to keep taking more classes. The price is really good for what you get, especially with all of the studio time you are offered. Definitely worth every penny. I took the Beginner 5 week course but wish I had taken the 10 week course because I want to keep learning more. JD is a great teacher. He is patient and kind with all of us eager beginners. I highly, highly recommend Maine Prairie Studio and will definitely be back to take more classes.
